We are busy making a herb garden near the kitchen. The idea came up when Calvin Dias who is an expert in perma-culture gardening stayed at Madi a Thavha. He works with schools in Northern Limpopo to teach the principles of perma culture and to develop gardens at the schools. He made a nice design for our herb garden and Alfred and his team are now preparing the land, building the structure of the garden, mixing the soil with compost and arranging the irrigation. We already bought the herbs: rosemary, thyme, lavender, parcel, basil and chives. When the herb garden is finished all plants need time to grow, so when winter starts Percy and Lufuno, our cooks can use the herbs in the kitchen.
