Madi a Thavha provides a place where people can retrieve knowledge, do research and can contribute to further development. Most South African art galleries and universities involved in the regions art and heritage are located in major cities and therefore difficult to access by local artists. The Resource Centre creates local opportunities for anyone who wants to further research in a wide variety of fields, such as
culture and heritage
art and crafts in its variety
people and the environment
medicinal plants and indigenous plant uses
history of beads and beadwork
peoples way of life
indigenous knowledge, science and technology
traditional African religion and indigenous belief systems
African cosmology, etc.
The centre will carry on collecting information and aims to have a comprehensive database and archive. The centre is also a place where the artists and crafters can meet, interact, produce and promote their work, and where workshops, interactive debates and performances can be organised.
