Justice Mugwena

Justice was born in 1981 and started to be an artist from his childhood days, developing as he grew up. His career started in 2003 when he went to learn wood carving (sculpture) at Lesheba Wilderness, where he spent 3 weeks sponsored by the De Beers Company. After coming back home, he worked as a woodcarver, selling his work at Vutsila Art Centre. Fellow woodcarver Thomas Kubayi inspired him in many ways and also taught him tricks and easier ways to sculpt.

Justice has sold several pieces of his art to people from different countries, especially small pieces. His piece called „Armchair“ was sold to the University of Limpopo (Northern Campus). With his sculpture “Mermaid” (height 3.5 m) he entered the sasol new signatures competition in 2005. He is exhibiting some of his sculptures at the “Rural Art Gallery” at Mashamba by John Baloyi, and also at Thomas Kubayi’s Vutsila Art Centre.
