Traditional and modern bead work, inspired by Tsonga heritage

Hlamarisa Vuma

Hlamarisa Vuma learned bead work from her mother. Now she is teaching young people bead work skills in her home village Bungeni, near Elim, Northern Limpopo. Hlamarisa is a disabled woman and doing bead work is her daily job, which makes her life meaningful. She specializes in traditional work such as fertility dolls and garments for traditional healers, but she also likes to make modern jewellery and decorations for fashion and interior products.
